Meet Our Host Chef Huwayda
Chef Huwayda owned and operated Arabian Nights Catering for over 12 years in the East Bay, and owned a unique Waffle and Panini Cafe on Bancroft Road in Berkeley until 2012. The Cafe won Best of the East Bay in their category within 2 months of opening. Their signature savory and sweet Belgian waffles included creative ingredients in the batter and innovative toppings.
After selling the Cafe, Chef Huwayda spent 6 years researching nutrition as it relates to cancer prevention. She interviewed and consulted with several leading health practitioners in the Integrative medical field. She then transformed all her recipes into health-supportive versions that are gluten, sugar and dairy free. Her conviction is that cooking the right foods with positive intention enables the body to heal. She specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine, having lived on the Mediterranean Sea for 20 years.
Her mother, Ruby, was a master chef, whose life in the Diplomatic world necessitated entertaining on a grand scale. At the behest of friends, she published a one-of-a-kind Compendium of Middle Eastern, North African and personal recipes. Huwayda and her siblings spent many hours at their mother's side in the kitchen, rolling grape leaves, stuffing squash, making phyllo-wrapped appetizers, and decorating elaborate desserts. She will take you around the world through her private group cooking classes!
